In 1885, Rover produced what many describe as the first recognizably modern bicycle, and in the 1930s were concerned with making cars "superior" to Fords and Austins. By the 1980s this goal had been achieved and Rovers came to be seen as upmarket versions of Fords and Vauxhalls. The BMW takeover of 1994 boosted this opinion and helped Rover to produce a range of refined luxury cars.

Although production of Rovers ceased in July 2005, their cars remain popular and on the roads today. Most recent models come fully-fitted with luxury leather interiors and wood-style fascias as part of the high Rover standard.
